Music Podcasts for Music People
Hey BARC,
Between having a long commute and only engaging with podcasts while I exercise, I have a lot of time to listen! So, I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite music-related podcasts with you all.
Jeremy Bolm’s First Ever Podcast - Jeremy Bolm is the lead singer of the band Touche Amore, and he hosts a weekly podcast where he interviews musicians and artists (mostly in the rock, punk and hardcore world) and discusses their first experiences in their art form. I love this podcast and look forward to it every week. If you dig this one, I would also suggest being a Patreon member. Jeremy does Patreon-only interviews where you get to ask the questions of your favorite artists and does an awesome weekly Radio show with tons of awesome music.
Bandsplain - This one is part of the Ringer Podcast Network and hosted by Yasi Salek. This is a show where Yasi invites a guest on to discuss a given band and their history and discography in a long-form format (typically 3-4 hour weekly episodes). I really enjoy Yasi and her unique manner of speaking. If you do listen and don’t start calling everyone “babe” what are you even doing??!
60 Songs That Explain the ‘90’s - Rob Harvilla (music critic and writer) started this podcast by exploring 60 songs that he felt explained the ‘90’s and has since moved on to explaining songs from the 2000’s. He relates each song to stories about his youth and adulthood and his interaction with the song, artist, and/or genre they exist in. He is very funny, thoughtful, and this weekly Podcast is absolutely worth your time.
100 Words or Less - Ray Harkins interviews band members from the punk, hardcore, and related sub-genres world. I am a sucker for learning more about the bands I love, and I love a ton of punk and hardcore music.
Life of the Record - A podcast that explores a specific album on each episode from a wide variety of genres, and typically has one of the main members on to discuss that album. Some of my favorite episodes are Manchester Orchestra, Sunny Day Real Estate, American Football, and Cursive.
Let me know what your favorite music podcasts are! I am always needing new content for my drives =)
