Blog Intro & LP Shopping Today.

If a standard blog post is a 2xLP 12” record, this and most blogs I will write are a 7”. In other words, I am not an excellent writer and I’m going to keep it brief. That said, I did some record shopping today while dropping off BARC flyers at local shops. Here’s what I picked up:

Between the Buried and Me - The Blue Nowhere.

This is the eleventh studio album by a band that is pretty difficult to fit in to a specific genre. They’re pretty metal, very prog-y, and a whole bunch of other styles. This LP is rad and if you are already in to BTBM, then you’re going to be stoked. Side note, I actually did not pick this up today. It was a pre-order that arrived a day after the LP came out yesterday. Not bad, but can we please get pre-ordered LP’s to us before it’s released? Ok, cool. Thanks!

Pino Palladino & Blake Mills - That Wasn’t a Dream.

This jazz album is the collaborative effort of bassist Pino Palladino and producer / guitarist Blake Mills. My friend Austin introduced me to their first LP (Notes With Attachments) and I am very happy he did. It’s vibey, has a ton of low end, and will chill you the hell out.

Rob Crow - Living Well.

In college one of my roommates introduced me to the band Pinback. Rob Crow is 50% of that band and this is his 2007 solo LP. Rob Crow and Pinback are both rad, and if you’re not aware of either, check them out!

American Football - S/T.

I am so very late to this band and LP. I’ve seen the cover a billion times, I listen to numerous Poly Vinyl bands, and I have a hard opinion that adding horns to music is always a good idea, so I am not sure why I decided to finally get in to this LP and pick it up today. That’s actually one of my favorite things about music; one day your like, “ehh, I’ve seen that on playlists, but I’m good.” to, “oh, shit! This LP hasn’t left my turntable in weeks!”

I am so stoked for all the people who have signed up for BARC and I’m looking forward to the first meetup. Tell a friend and look out for the next update.

J.
